Sepsis is a significant concern in Australian Healthcare due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. Sepsis was reported to affect about 55,000 Australians in 2017 year, and these patients accounted for about 8700 deaths in the same year, a mortality rate higher than road accidents and most cancers (Kumar et al., 2023). Thus, it has been emphasized that up until now, sepsis remains a significant problem to be addressed in clinical practice areas because of the rising rate of severe sepsis patients in the modern world.

Indeed, it has been witnessed that there are specific areas of sepsis that require enhanced education to ensure that we handle the disease well. A prospective study on error analysis in six months reported that tardy sepsis identification was accountable for 15% of adverse events (Chua & Angst, 2023). Several incident reports and most of the staff responses revealed that there are significant knowledge deficits when addressing sepsis in nursing staff. A study among ICU nurses revealed that 60% reported feeling insufficiently prepared to recognize the even early signs of sepsis, highlighting the need for specialized educational campaigns to fill these gaps in knowledge (Regina et al., 2023).

A Gallup poll of 1236 adults showed that 12% of the respondents believe that it is bad luck to walk under a ladder. Consider the probability that among 30 randomly selected people from the 1236 who were polled, there are at least 2 who have that belief. Given that the subjects surveyed were selected without replacement, the events are not independent. Can the probability be found by using the binomial probability formula? Why or why not?
